Sarah Stewart
"I paint because the plants asked me to."
Self-taught. Called by the plants. For over eight years Sarah has been painting a 78-card botanical tarot deck, one flower spirit at a time. Each card begins with the plant itself. She takes the flower essences while she paints, letting their frequency guide what appears on the birch wood panel.
63 cards are complete. The deck is a living project, unfolding at the pace the plants set. Sarah also paints large-scale murals for businesses and private residences throughout the Southeast.
Based in Charleston, South Carolina, Sarah's work sits at the intersection of sacred art, plant medicine, and visual storytelling. Her work has been published in Taschen's Library of Esoterica: Plant Magic and exhibited at the ArtFields Art Competition. She also paints murals and illustrations for brands like Low Country Fungi, Chariot Apothecary, Wecology, and Fire Cider.

"I take the flower essences while I paint, letting their frequency guide what appears on the wood."
Each painting begins with the plant. Sarah studies its medicinal properties, its folklore, its spirit. She takes the corresponding flower essences and sits with the energy before touching brush to birch wood. The paintings emerge through a process that is part meditation, part channeling, part traditional acrylic technique.
The birch wood panels are intentional — their warm, luminous grain becomes part of the painting itself, giving each card an organic glow that printed paper cannot replicate.
